Spam Filtering Settings
Protect your inbox from unwanted emails. Learn how to configure spam filtering for optimal results.
How Our Spam Filter Works
Incoming emails are analyzed using:
- SpamAssassin scoring
- Bayesian filtering (learns from your actions)
- Blacklist checking (known spam sources)
- SPF/DKIM/DMARC validation
- Content analysis
Spam Filter Levels
| Level | Description | Recommended For |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Catches obvious spam only | Users who rarely get spam |
| Medium | Balanced filtering | Most users |
| High | Aggressive filtering | Users with spam problems |
| Custom | Your own rules | Advanced users |
Configuring Spam Settings
- Go to Email > Select your mailbox
- Click Spam Settings
- Choose your filter level
- Configure additional options
Whitelist & Blacklist
Whitelist (Always Allow)
Add trusted senders who might be incorrectly flagged:
- Go to Spam Settings > Whitelist
- Add email addresses or domains
- Example:
newsletter@company.comor@trustedcompany.com
Blacklist (Always Block)
Block specific senders:
- Go to Spam Settings > Blacklist
- Add email addresses or domains
- Messages from these senders go directly to spam
Training the Filter
Help the filter learn by marking messages:
In Webmail:
- Mark spam: Select message > Click Spam
- Mark not spam: Select message in Spam folder > Click Not Spam
The filter learns from:
- Messages you mark as spam
- Messages you rescue from spam
- Patterns across all users (anonymized)
Spam Actions
Choose what happens to detected spam:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Move to Spam | Default - messages go to Spam folder |
| Delete | Permanently delete (not recommended) |
| Tag subject | Add [SPAM] to subject line |
| Forward | Send to another address for review |
Advanced Settings
Custom Rules
Create rules based on:
- Sender address
- Subject line keywords
- Header content
- Attachment types
Quarantine
Review caught spam before deletion:
- Enable quarantine in settings
- Receive daily digest of caught spam
- Release false positives with one click
Tips
- Check spam folder regularly for false positives
- Never whitelist domains you don't fully trust
- Report persistent spam to improve filters
- Use unique addresses for different purposes
