Your AI Agent Can Now Buy the Domain Too

You are halfway through a conversation about a side project. You ask your assistant whether anything decent is still free. It comes back with three names, you like the second one, and you tell it to go ahead.

Until now, this is where the conversation died. Your assistant would hand you a link, you would open a browser, hunt for your card, type the number in, wait for the bank to text you a code, and then go back to the chat and tell it you were done. By which point the idea had gone a bit cold.

Now it just buys it. You get asked to confirm, you say yes, and about three seconds later the domain is yours.

What it actually looks like

You: grab me quietthursday.com if it's still free

Assistant: It is, and it is not a premium name. $10.39 for the year, plus the $0.20 ICANN fee and card processing. Your balance is a bit short, so I will top it up on your card first. Confirm?

You: yes

Assistant: Done. quietthursday.com is registered to you until October 2027, and DNS is already set up.

That is the whole thing. The part that used to require a browser now happens inside the conversation.

Which assistants can do this

Any assistant that can connect to our tools, which by now is most of the ones people actually use:

AssistantNotes
ClaudeThe easiest one to set up. Add OSIR as a connector and you are done. Two-minute guide.
ChatGPTWorks through connectors.
Grok BuildxAI's terminal agent. Anything you have already wired up for another assistant works here unchanged.
Hermes AgentRuns on your own server and stays on, so it can watch for expiring domains while you get on with your life.
OpenClawLives on your machine and talks to you over WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal. Buying a domain by text message is exactly as odd and as good as it sounds.
Meta Muse CodeMeta's terminal tool connects to us. The regular Muse app does not do this yet.
Gemini CLIThe command line version, not the app.

Why try it on a domain

Domains are a good first thing to let an agent buy. Nothing gets shipped, nothing arrives late, and there is nothing to send back. You find out in seconds whether it worked. And unlike almost anything else in a shopping cart, the thing you are buying can genuinely be gone by the time you have found your wallet, which is the one situation where shaving two minutes off actually matters.

There is a neater reason too. Agents are starting to need names of their own, for the little services and sites people are building with them. It is quite satisfying that an agent can now go and get one by itself.

Try it yourself

Setup takes a couple of minutes: connect your assistant and ask it to find you something. Looking and pricing need no account at all, so you can poke around before committing to anything. If you run your own agent, this guide covers OpenClaw and Hermes.

A year ago we asked whether an AI could buy you a domain and the answer was a heavily qualified "sort of, if you are standing there with a card". Less qualified now.

Frequently asked questions

Can my AI buy a domain without asking me?

No. It always stops and shows you what it is about to spend, and nothing happens until you say yes.

Do I need anything special set up?

You need a payment permission from your assistant's platform or wallet. Without one, you get a normal checkout link instead, which still works.

Which AI assistants can register domains?

Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Build, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, Meta Muse Code and Gemini CLI, plus anything else that speaks the same connector standard.

Does my assistant see my card details?

No. It gets a one-time permission for a single amount and nothing more. Your card details never reach it.

What if the payment does not go through?

It tries again, and failing that it hands you an ordinary checkout link. You are never stuck, just slightly slower.

Can it renew domains I already own?

Yes, and order servers, and set up email. Same conversation, same confirmation step.
