What is MCP (Model Context Protocol)?
An open standard that lets AI assistants call external services through structured, auditable tools instead of clicking around web pages. Connecting an MCP server to an assistant like Claude gives it real capabilities, such as checking domain availability or editing DNS records, with authentication and confirmation enforced by the server.
How do I connect Claude to OSIR?
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, add a custom connector with the URL https://be.osir.com/mcp/http, and sign in with your OSIR account. Claude can then search, register, renew, and manage domains, DNS, and VPS on your behalf, with every action tied to your account.
Can I use ChatGPT to manage my OSIR domains?
Yes, through ChatGPT's connector support for MCP servers (currently offered as a developer/beta feature by OpenAI). Add the OSIR MCP server URL as a connector and authenticate. Any other MCP-capable client, such as Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, or Hermes Agent, works the same way.

No. The connector is free to use with an OSIR account. You pay only for what you buy through it, at the same prices as the website, with the ICANN fee ($0.20/yr on gTLDs) and payment processing (3% or $0.30 minimum) always shown before you confirm.
Can an AI assistant actually register a domain for me?
Yes. The assistant checks availability, quotes the full price including fees, and stages the registration behind an explicit confirmation step. You approve, it registers. Renewals, transfers, and DNS changes follow the same pattern.
What are the built-in MCP prompts?

Is it safe to let an AI agent manage my domains?
The connector is designed for it: every call requires an authenticated session, purchases and hard-to-reverse actions sit behind an explicit confirmation the agent cannot skip, all activity is rate-limited and recorded in your audit trail, and you can revoke an agent session at any time.
What stops an agent from buying things without my approval?
Payment-class tools are staged: the agent receives a summary with the full price and must present it for explicit confirmation before anything executes. An unconfirmed action simply never runs.
Can my agent monitor domain expiry for me?
Yes, and it is one of the best uses of an always-on agent: it can list your domains, check expiry dates and auto-renew status on a schedule, and message you (or stage a renewal for approval) before anything lapses.
How does a headless agent log in without a browser?
Through the device-login flow: the agent calls the loginWithDevice tool, which returns a link and code. You open the link, approve the login, and the agent receives a revocable session key. The agent never sees your password.
Can I see what my agent has done on my account?
Yes. Every action is logged, and the audit tools (such as getMyAuditLogs and getRecentActivity) let you, or the agent itself on request, review exactly what happened and when.
Can an AI agent transfer a domain to OSIR for me?
Yes. The transfer tools quote the cost, initiate the transfer with the auth code you provide, and report status along the way. The usual transfer rules apply, including the industry-wide 60-day lock after registration or a previous transfer.
Can agents talk to OSIR without a human in the loop?
Autonomous reads and routine operations, yes. Anything that spends money or is hard to reverse requires the confirmation step by design. The A2A endpoints exist specifically for structured agent-to-agent workflows.
My agent framework supports skills, not MCP. Can it still use OSIR?
Usually yes: most skill-based agents (including OpenClaw and Hermes Agent) also support MCP servers natively, and anything that can make HTTP requests can use the REST API with an API session.

How do I register a domain?
Search for the name, pick from 450+ extensions, and check out in seconds. Registration is instant for most extensions. Prefer natural language? Connect an AI assistant and ask it to do the same thing.
Which domain extensions does OSIR offer?
More than 450, covering the classics (.com, .net, .org), country codes (.al, .io, .ai, .sh and many more), and hundreds of newer extensions from .dev and .app to .pizza. Each has its own detail page with pricing and rules.
What is included free with every domain?
WHOIS privacy, DNSSEC support, and anycast DNS served from 3 continents with a 99.9999% uptime SLA. There is no charge for the DNS service or for keeping your registrant data private.
What is a premium domain?
A name the registry prices above the standard rate, usually because it is short or a common word. Premium pricing is shown clearly during search and checkout before you buy, and renewals of premium names can also carry premium rates depending on the registry.
Why is the price at checkout slightly higher than the listed price?
Two disclosed fees are added: the mandatory ICANN fee of $0.20 per year on gTLDs, and payment processing of 3% or $0.30, whichever is greater. Both are itemized at checkout. There are no other charges.
Do renewals cost more than the first year?
No. Renewal always equals the registration price at OSIR. We do not do first-year teaser pricing that doubles at renewal.
Can I register a domain for multiple years?
Yes, most extensions allow registration for up to 10 years. Multi-year registration locks in the current price for the covered period and reduces the risk of an accidental lapse.
What is a domain hack?
A domain where the extension completes the word, like gold.fish or aweso.me. The search page has a dedicated filter that finds hacks for your keyword across the extensions we carry.
Can I register internationalized (non-Latin) domain names?
Yes, we support IDNs on extensions that allow them, including several native-script TLDs. Search handles Unicode input, and the detail page of each extension notes its character rules.
What happens right after I register?
The domain appears in your dashboard immediately with DNS ready to configure. WHOIS privacy is on by default, and you can point the domain at a site, email, or VPS right away, by dashboard, API, or AI assistant.
Transfers
How do I transfer a domain to OSIR?
Unlock the domain at your current registrar, request its transfer authorization code (also called EPP code), and start the transfer here with that code. Most transfers complete within 5 days, and we email you at every step.
Does transferring add time to my registration?
For most gTLDs, yes: a successful transfer adds one year to your existing expiry date, so the transfer fee is not lost money. Some country-code TLDs handle this differently; the extension page notes exceptions.
Why can I not transfer a domain I registered 3 weeks ago?
ICANN rules impose a 60-day transfer lock after initial registration and after any previous transfer. It is industry-wide, not an OSIR policy. Once the 60 days pass, the domain can be transferred normally.
Will my website go down during a transfer?
No. A registrar transfer does not change your DNS records or nameservers by itself, so your site and email keep working. If you plan to switch DNS to us afterwards, do it as a separate, controlled step.
Can I transfer a domain out of OSIR?
Yes, at any time outside the 60-day lock windows. Unlock the domain in your dashboard, request the auth code, and use it at the receiving registrar. We do not charge an exit fee.
My transfer seems stuck. What should I check?
The three usual causes: the domain is still locked at the old registrar, the auth code was wrong or expired, or the losing registrar is waiting out its release window. The transfer status tools (dashboard or MCP) show exactly which stage you are in.
DNS & nameservers
Is DNS hosting included with my domain?
Yes. Every domain includes managed anycast DNS served from 3 continents with a 99.9999% uptime SLA, at no extra cost. You can also point the domain at any external nameservers you prefer.
Which DNS record types can I manage?
All the standard types you actually use: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, and more, manageable from the dashboard, the API, or by asking a connected AI assistant.
How long do DNS changes take to propagate?
A new or changed record is typically visible within minutes, but caches elsewhere hold old values for up to the record's TTL (time to live). Plan a lower TTL ahead of planned migrations, and remember propagation is caching, not a queue.
What are nameservers and when do I change them?
Nameservers are the servers that answer DNS queries for your domain. You change them only when moving DNS management wholesale, for example to a hosting provider. To just point a site or email, edit records instead; it is far less disruptive.
Does OSIR support DNSSEC?
Yes, DNSSEC support is included with every domain. It cryptographically signs your DNS data so resolvers can detect tampering, and it is one of the hygiene signals that will matter for agent identity standards built on DNS.
What is web forwarding and is it included?
Web forwarding points your domain (or a subdomain) at any URL with automatic HTTPS, included free. Keep the domain on our nameservers for it to work, and choose whether to preserve the path when forwarding.
What are glue records and do I need them?
Glue records (host records) let a nameserver live inside the domain it serves, like ns1.yourdomain.com. You only need them if you run your own nameservers; the host tools create and manage them.
Billing & payments
What fees apply on top of the domain price?
Exactly two, both disclosed at checkout: the mandatory ICANN fee of $0.20 per year on gTLDs, and payment processing of 3% or $0.30, whichever is greater. Nothing else, and renewal equals the registration price.
How does the account balance work?
You can top up a balance and pay for registrations, renewals, and services from it, which is also the recommended setup for AI agents: give the agent a working balance you are comfortable with instead of an open-ended payment method.
Can I preview fees before paying?
Yes. Checkout itemizes everything before you confirm, and via the connector the previewPaymentFees tool gives an assistant the same breakdown so it can quote you the true total up front.
Where do I find my invoices?
In the dashboard under billing, or by asking a connected assistant, which can list invoices, fetch details, and report statistics through the billing tools.
What happens if I forget to renew a domain?
Expiry starts a grace pipeline: a renewal grace period when normal renewal still works, then a redemption period where restoring costs a registry fee, then a short pendingDelete phase after which the name drops and anyone can register it. Auto-renew (or an agent watching expiry) avoids the whole pipeline.
Does auto-renew charge without warning?
Auto-renew renews the domain at its normal renewal price before expiry, using your balance or payment method, and you are notified by email. You can toggle auto-renew per domain at any time, in the dashboard or through an assistant.

What VPS hosting does OSIR offer?

Can an AI assistant order and set up a VPS for me?
Yes. The VPS tools cover ordering, building with an OS template and SSH keys, status, panel login, and deletion. Ordering costs money, so it sits behind the same confirmation gate as domain purchases.
What is OSIR app hosting?
A deploy-your-app service managed entirely through tools: upload the code, deploy, read logs, set secrets, and provision a managed database. It is built so an AI assistant can take an app from folder to URL in one conversation.
Can I host an always-on AI agent on an OSIR VPS?
Yes, a small VPS is a natural home for agents like Hermes Agent or OpenClaw: always on, always connected, with a subdomain of your own domain (like agent.yourname.com) as its stable address. Our blog has a full setup guide.
Do you offer email hosting?
Yes, professional email on your own domain with anti-spam, mobile sync, and shared calendars. Aliases let you run multiple addresses over one mailbox; the Help Center covers setup.
Are dedicated servers available?
Yes, a dedicated server catalog is available alongside VPS packages for workloads that need the whole machine. Ask via the dashboard or have your assistant browse the catalog tools.
Security & account
How is my account protected?
Two-factor authentication is available and recommended, every session (human or agent) is authenticated and revocable, and the full account history is visible in your audit log.
What is WHOIS privacy and is it really free?
It replaces your personal registrant data in public WHOIS/RDAP output with proxy contact data, so your name, address, and email are not harvestable. It is included free with every domain, on by default.
What is a registrar lock?
A status (clientTransferProhibited) that blocks transfers of your domain until you unlock it. Keep it on except during an intentional transfer; it is your main defense against domain hijacking. Locking and unlocking are one click or one tool call.
Can I revoke an AI agent's access without changing my password?
Yes. Agent sessions are separate from your password: log the device out (or use the logout tool) and that session key stops working immediately. Your password never passes through the agent in the first place.
Does OSIR run a bug bounty program?
No. We publish a security.txt and welcome responsible disclosure at the published contact, but we do not operate a paid bounty program.
How do I report abuse of a domain registered here?
Use the contact form and choose the appropriate reason, or the abuse contact in our published policies. Reports are reviewed against the acceptable use policy and registry requirements.
What data do AI assistants see about my account?
Only what the authenticated session allows, which is your own account data: your domains, records, invoices, and profile. Tools operate per-account with rate limits, and every access is logged.
