WHOIS privacy protection

WHOIS Privacy Protection

WHOIS privacy protection keeps your personal information hidden from public WHOIS lookups.

What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a public database containing contact information for domain owners. This includes:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Why Use Privacy Protection?

Without privacy protection, your personal data is visible to:

  • Spammers and telemarketers
  • Identity thieves
  • Competitors
  • Anyone with internet access

How It Works

When you enable WHOIS privacy:

  1. Our proxy information replaces yours in the public database
  2. Your actual details remain in our secure system
  3. Legitimate contacts are forwarded to you
  4. Spam and unwanted contacts are filtered

Enabling Privacy Protection

For New Domains

  • Privacy is included free with most TLDs
  • Simply check the "Enable Privacy Protection" box during checkout

For Existing Domains

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Select the domain
  3. Click Privacy tab
  4. Toggle WHOIS Privacy on

Supported TLDs

Privacy protection is available for most TLDs. Some exceptions:

  • .us - US regulations require accurate WHOIS
  • .eu - GDPR provides some protection
  • Some ccTLDs have specific requirements

Privacy and Legal Compliance

  • We comply with ICANN requirements
  • Law enforcement can still access information with valid legal requests
  • Your ownership rights are not affected
